Field Target is a precision airgun sport which places extreme demands on the optical and mechanical quality of the riflescope. That’s why SIGHTRON scopes are so popular. Competitors aim at reactive targets which fall when they receive a direct hit on the tiny “kill zone paddle”. This paddle can be as small as 3/8-inch diameter and placed at distances out to 55 yards. There’s an “all or nothing”-type scoring system, if the paddle is hit, the target falls and a score is registered. If not, the score for that shot is zero.

The air rifles used are limited to just 12 Ft/Lbs. of muzzle energy. This means that the light .177 caliber pellets fly slowly (about 800 FPS) and thus have a very elliptical trajectory. No rangefinding equipment is allowed, yet exact range estimation is a must.

This combination of shooting tiny targets at unknown distances with slow-moving ammo demands the utmost qualities from both shooter and riflescope.
